LMT Launches Multiscreen TV Services With Broadpeak® Solutions

Using a Comprehensive Range of CDN and Server Solutions From Broadpeak, LMT Offers Live, VOD, and Catch-up TV Services

RENNES, France — Oct. 26, 2017 — Broadpeak®, a leading provider of content delivery network (CDN) and video streaming solutions for pay TV operators and content providers worldwide, today announced that Latvian telco operator Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT) has deployed a comprehensive Broadpeak solution to support its new live, on-demand, and catch-up TV services. Hannu Pro provided expertise in systems integration to streamline the launch of the new services. Broadpeak’s multiscreen solution includes CDN and video systems that ensure a superior quality of experience (QoE) on any screen for LMT subscribers.

"Launching a IPTV multiscreen TV service to complement our existing 4G mobile offering will give us an edge in the marketplace. However, coming from a wireless background, it was important we partner with a leader in multiscreen deployments," said Edgars Goncars, content development manager at LMT. "Broadpeak’s CDN and server solutions give us peace of mind that the highest quality content is always delivered to our customers."

Broadpeak’s BkS350 origin packager and BkS400 cache servers deliver video content via adaptive bit rate technology, guaranteeing a high level of video quality. Using the servers, LMT can package encoded content, on the fly, in multiple adaptive bitrate formats (e.g., Apple® HLS, Microsoft® Smooth Streaming, Adobe® HDS, and MPEG-DASH) to address the wide range of players and devices that exist today. The presence of a local cache removes any contention point that could impact the traffic between the origin server and the edge network, improving QoS and QoE by streaming higher video profiles more frequently.

Utilizing Broadpeak’s BkM100 Video Delivery Mediator, LMT can effectively manage security, load balancing, and failover tasks. The BkM100 system continuously monitors the popularity of content based on subscriber usage patterns to deliver VOD content in the most cost-effective and efficient manner.

Broadpeak’s BkM100 also allows LMT to dynamically offload peak traffic to a third-party CDN, in the event the onsite CDN reaches maximum capacity. This capability is especially useful during live events with a large viewing audience.

"When a telecom operator decides to launch a IPTV multiscreen TV service, it’s essential that they deliver a high quality of experience and service; offer advanced features like catch-up TV; and support a broad range of device types, including TVs, PCs, smartphones, and tablets," said Jacques Le Mancq, CEO, Broadpeak. "LMT chose Broadpeak due to the comprehensive and flexible range of CDN and server solutions we provide. Between the presence of local cache and origin servers, on-the-fly packaging, and the ability to offload traffic to an external CDN when necessary, Broadpeak’s solutions allow LMT to provide the best possible QoE on every screen."

Interra Systems Launches OTT Edge Performance Monitor Powered by NPAW YOUBORA

With the End-to-End Client Device Monitoring Solution, OTT Service Providers Can Analyze Video Performance to Improve QoE

CUPERTINO, Calif. — Oct. 25, 2017 — Interra Systems, a leading global provider of software products and solutions to the digital media industry, today announced ORION™-OTT Edge Performance Monitor (EPM) powered by NPAW YOUBORA. Integration between Interra Systems’ ORION-OTT monitoring probe and NPAW YOUBORA video analytics and business intelligence suite provides operators in the broadcast, cable, telco, satellite, IPTV, over-the-top (OTT), and postproduction markets with a comprehensive set of tools to deliver live and VOD content with the utmost confidence. Using the solution, service providers can analyze the video performance metrics of real user sessions, gain insight into recurrent issues and their causes, and easily isolate errors to improve quality of experience (QoE) and user engagement.

"Measuring QoE is critical to the success of OTT services," said Jonathan Shields, VP of sales at NPAW. "Partnering with Interra Systems, an expert in the field of OTT monitoring, we are able to provide the industry with a complete end-to-end client device monitoring workflow for over-the-top services. The end result is flawless video delivery on every screen."

ORION-OTT EPM collects and extracts vital video performance metrics such as startup time, buffering ratio, number of stalls, and play failures from client devices. The collected metrics are analyzed to isolate performance issues across various dimensions including CDNs, ISPs, countries, cities, and video titles, and then drilled down to the root cause. Featuring a rich user interface with real-time views of all quality metrics segregated across various dimensions, ORION-OTT EPM speeds up the identification of anomalies.

To correlate QoE findings at different points in a monitoring workflow (e.g., origin server, CDN) and derive meaningful information out of it, service providers require an advanced centralized monitoring platform. ORION-OTT EPM offers seamless integration with Interra Systems’ ORION Central Manager to build a complete picture with meaningful insights.

"As the most advanced and holistic suite of integrated video analytics and business intelligence for broadcasters and other content providers, YOUBORA is the perfect match for our ORION-OTT solution," said Anupama Anantharaman, director, product marketing and business development at Interra Systems. "Leveraging YOUBORA, ORION-OTT EPM enables OTT service providers to make data-driven, business, operational, and technical decisions that drive performance and maximize revenue across the entire video service."

AdScribe Helps Deliver Next-Generation HbbTV Interactive Advertising in Switzerland

AdScribe Engage Interactive Advertising Platform Enables Campaigns to Be Launched Rapidly for Increased Revenue Growth

DUBLIN — Oct. 24, 2017 — AdScribe, a subsidiary of Zenterio, today announced that it is bringing next-generation advertising to television viewers on compatible HbbTV devices. Partnering with AdScribe, Admeira, the largest marketing company in Switzerland, has launched a beta test with interactive advertising campaigns running on the public TV channels delivered by a major Swiss TV operator, giving viewers the ability to interact directly with commercials, browse additional content, watch videos, enter competitions, and more. The campaigns were built using AdScribe Engage.

This project marks the first interactive advertising campaigns to be run by Admeira, transforming television viewer experiences and giving advertisers a two-way connection with their target audience. Drawing on AdScribe’s extensive experience designing and deploying similar technology and campaigns around the world, Admeira intends to introduce the interactive ad features as part of a broadcast product offering.

The first two campaigns feature a major supermarket chain and leading German car producer. Television viewers have access to additional information on the supermarket chain’s cooking club, including the ability to view or watch a recipe and order a free sample of a magazine. The other commercial allows them to directly book a test drive of the latest automobile.

Developed in AdScribe Engage, the advertising sites are launched from a graphic synchronized to the linear spots on certain channels and are available in French, German, and Italian. Engage is a complete, end-to-end multiscreen platform that enables TV platform operators and broadcasters to create and operate an interactive advertising and promotions business using the TV interface that viewers use every day. With Engage, operators and broadcasters can promote their own content and services or generate revenue from third-party advertisers. Engage supports a wide variety of ad formats from static banners, through to fully interactive applications with embedded video.

Moreover, the AdScribe Engage Studio authoring tool allows operators to build and deploy the campaigns far quicker and with more creative freedom than traditional template approaches. The advertiser receives detailed reports on all interactions as well as any data the viewers opt to submit. Viewer data can be auto-populated from the pay-TV operator subscriber database, making the process seamless and ensuring a higher completion rate.

"We are proud to collaborate with Admeira on a new interactive ad offering, which is still in beta testing," said Donal O’Connor, CEO at AdScribe. "Interactive advertising has the potential to be a game-changer for pay-TV operators and broadcasters, enabling them to engage subscribers with relevant and timely content and drive awareness of next-generation, revenue-enhancing services. The AdScribe Engage platform is the cornerstone driving these new experiences."

Triveni Digital to Offer Expertise on Broadcast Repack, Channel Sharing, and Transition to ATSC 3.0 at SMPTE 2017 Technical Conference

PRINCETON, N.J. — Oct. 17, 2017 — Triveni Digital today announced that its Senior Vice President of Emergent Technology Development, Mark Corl, will present at the SMPTE 2017 Technical Conference in Los Angeles. On Thursday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. Corl will discuss "The Broadcast Guide to Surviving the Repack, Channel Sharing and Upcoming Transition to ATSC 3.0," providing broadcasters with salient information about the next-generation standard and activities surrounding it to ensure a quick and streamlined transition.

"The ATSC 3.0 standard is on the verge of completion, which will provide broadcasters with a wide range of benefits based on the ability to comprehensively distribute a hybrid mix of broadcast and broadband IP content to fixed and mobile receivers for the very first time. Yet, it will also require a steep learning curve for broadcasters," said Corl. "At the SMPTE 2017 Technical Conference, I will provide a comprehensive overview of the repack, exploring channel sharing options and ways that broadcasters can ensure a smooth migration to the next-generation broadcast television system while still supporting the current legacy broadcast infrastructure for the duration of the expected transition phase."

Corl’s presentation takes place during a four-part speaking session titled "Next-generation TV Part 1 — Not Your Father’s Television," chaired by Bobby White, director of engineering at Sunset Bronson Studios. During his presentation, Corl will explore the different opportunities and benefits of channel sharing, including centralized, distributed, and cloud approaches for the generation and management of metadata between two channel-sharing stations. Broadcasters will learn which PSIP method best fits their requirements under the repack to retain appropriate station-level channel branding and service guide information, while maintaining FCC compliance. Additionally, the presentation will give an overview of strategies for getting up to speed with the new broadcast television standard in a real-world environment.

As senior vice president of emergent technology development at Triveni Digital, Corl determines the strategic direction of the company. He has been a key leader for nearly 20 years, with extensive contributions in product engineering and architecture. He is heavily involved with the ATSC efforts to standardize the next generation of broadcast TV. Corl is currently the chair of the ATSC 3.0 Ad-Hoc Group on Interactive Content (S34-4), the chair of the ATSC 1.0 Ad-Hoc Group on the 3.0 transition (TG1-10), and the vice chair of the ATSC Personalization and Interactivity Implementation Team. He is a co-author of the A/324: Scheduler/Studio to Transmitter Link candidate standard and has contributed to several other standards that comprise the ATSC 3.0 standards suite. During his tenure at Triveni Digital, Corl has led the GuideBuilder® and StreamScope® development efforts as well as custom projects, such as the award-winning Fox network control system (ANDES). Corl holds a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and computer science from Bucknell University.

AVIWEST Launches HE4000 HEVC Encoder for Live UHD Video Delivery

HE4000 Allows Broadcasters to Cost-Effectively Address the Growing Consumer Demand for High-Quality Live Content

SAINT-GRÉGOIRE, France — Oct. 17, 2017 — AVIWEST, a global provider of video contribution systems, today announced the HE4000 HEVC encoder, the broadcast industry’s first encoder to enable live UHD (4K) video delivery over unmanaged networks in a compact ½-RU design that reduces space requirements, enabling broadcasters to cost-effectively address consumer demand for superior-quality live content, delivered via 4G/LTE, satellite (Ka- and Ku-band, BGAN), wired IP network, or a combination of IP links. By combining HEVC encoding and AVIWEST’s SafeStreams® technology, the HE4000 dramatically reduces bandwidth costs while guaranteeing superior video quality.

"Today’s media organizations are challenged like never before to satisfy the insatiable consumer demand for live and on-demand content — including ultra-high-definition video — delivered on the broadest range of devices," said Philippe Gonon, VP of innovation at AVIWEST. "Until now, there has been no way to deliver UHD content over unmanaged IP networks, because it required too much bandwidth. The combination of HEVC and AVIWEST’s SafeStreams bonding technology now makes this achievable. The HE4000 is the latest demonstration of AVIWEST’s commitment to helping its broadcast customers gain an edge on the competition."

Combining 10-bit and 4:2:2 HEVC encoding with the latest generation of AVIWEST’s SafeStreams contribution technology ensures reliable delivery of live SD, HD, and UHD video over IP at low latencies and bit rates. The platform is compatible with the latest HDR formats and allows broadcasters to encode up to four simultaneous HD video streams or a single 4K UHD channel from a single encoder.

AVIWEST’s SafeStreams technology implements an intelligent IP bonding stack and powerful contribution network protocols, such as the HARQ (Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request) mechanism to ensure the HE4000 can deliver live video even in the midst of unpredictable and unmanaged network conditions. This enables broadcasters to provide news and sports coverage from any location around the world.

The HE4000 contribution encoder offers integration with the AVIWEST DMNG Manager and DMNG StreamHub receiver, decoder, and distribution platform, enabling stations to receive content and monitor, manage, and control all transmissions with a single interface.

Triveni Digital Adds SLA Verification Feature to StreamScope® RM-50 Monitoring System

As Repack and Channel Sharing Efforts Progress, Verification of Service-Level Agreements Is Crucial

PRINCETON, N.J. — Oct. 12, 2017 — Triveni Digital today announced that it will unveil a new Service-Level Agreement (SLA) verification feature for its industry-leading StreamScope® RM-50 monitoring system at NAB Show New York, Oct. 18-19, at the Javits Convention Center in New York City. Using the StreamScope RM-50 remote transport stream monitor, broadcasters participating in a channel-sharing agreement can successfully verify SLAs. The StreamScope RM-50 system provides broadcasters with instant notifications when an SLA is not being met along with comprehensive data about noncompliance to ensure the best level of service is being delivered to viewers at all times.

"With the repack in full swing, there is still a significant amount of complexity surrounding how broadcasters in channel-sharing agreements will verify that SLA requirements have been met," said Ralph Bachofen, vice president of sales and marketing at Triveni Digital. "Our StreamScope RM-50 monitoring system has been enhanced with a new SLA verification capability to ensure that service-level agreements are complied with in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible."

The StreamScope RM-50 can be used to monitor a wide range of SLA parameters, including the maximum and minimum bandwidth allowed for all services having the same major number, the maximum percentage of overall transport bandwidth allowed to be used by the services with the same major number, stream structure, and number of services per major number. In addition, the monitoring system provides broadcasters with a reliable solution for defining and verifying SLA schedules.

The new SLA verification feature on the StreamScope RM-50 is easy to use, providing broadcasters with a single web-based dashboard to configure all SLA attributes and view whether a given transport, associated services, and metadata (PSIP) are currently in compliance with an associated SLA. Through the monitoring system’s user-friendly interface, broadcasters can conveniently visualize current and historical reports showing SLA compliance and noncompliance over selected time periods for analysis, improving SLA compliance. The new SLA capability is available for existing customers as a software upgrade and is integrated with the current triggering features available on StreamScope RM-50, allowing broadcasters to trigger based on noncompliance with an SLA.

In addition, the StreamScope RM-50 is fully integrated with Triveni Digital’s StreamScope EM-50 enterprise manager, which offers advanced fleet management capabilities to ensure that broadcasters keep the software levels of monitoring systems up-to-date network-wide. Advanced fleet monitoring allows the broadcaster to minimize Mean-Time-To-Repair (MTTR). Routine license management and configuration backup/restore operations can be performed via the StreamScope EM-50. As a broadcaster’s services expand, adding and configuring remote monitors can easily be done from a central location in a unified workflow.
