Live Sports Get Personalized with Harmonic, Google and 3SS

Breakthrough Picture-in-Picture, Sports Multi-View and Personalized Mosaic Capabilities on Android TV™ Demonstrated at IBC2019

Harmonic (NASDAQ: HLIT), in collaboration with Google and 3SS, has created an integrated OTT and broadcast live sports workflow on Android TV™, delivering essential tailored features such as picture-in-picture, multi-view and personalized mosaic. At IBC2019, on Harmonic Stand 1.B20 and Google Stand 14.E02, the companies will demonstrate how pay-TV operators can now deliver personalized, low-latency live sports experiences on OTT and hybrid set-top boxes (STBs) using Harmonic’s VOS® cloud-native live video platform, a powerful UHD STB and the 3READY custom launcher application from 3SS.

The demo incorporates Harmonic’s containerized VOS software platform, spanning content preparation through origin server, hosted on Google Cloud Platform. Enabling unified OTT and broadcast delivery workflows, the VOS platform ensures low latency and exceptional picture quality for all multistream applications, improving the live sports experience.

Harmonic (NASDAQ: HLIT) today announced it has teamed up with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) to optimize deployments of its VOS® cloud-native platform. Together, Harmonic’s VOS offerings and HPE GreenLake deliver customer success through a consumption-based service that enables operators to achieve increased simplicity, scalability and cost savings for IPTV and OTT video delivery.

Harmonic Powers Sky Italia OTT Services

Harmonic’s Cloud-Native Media Processing Solution Supports High-Quality Video Delivery at Low Bit Rates

Harmonic (NASDAQ: HLIT) today announced that its cloud-native media processing software and content-aware encoding (CAE) technology is powering Sky Italia’s OTT streaming services. The Harmonic solution is integrated into the Sky Italia hybrid cloud software-defined streaming platform. Leveraging the latest advancements in pure software architecture, the Harmonic solution provides Sky Italia with the agility, flexibility and scalability to speed up the launch of new premium services and enable delivery of superior video quality at low bitrates.

Sky Italia’s solution for its linear video streaming platform is based on Kubernetes and microservices to serve event-based and 24/7 channels on OTT platforms. Adhering to these requirements, Harmonic’s VOS® Cluster software dynamically controls and optimizes Sky Italia’s on-premises and cloud video-processing resources.

By enabling Sky Italia to dynamically control and optimize its video processing resources, together with their blueprint for an open-source ecosystem, the VOS solution will dramatically accelerate time to market for new channels. EyeQ™ CAE will be used to significantly reduce Sky’s bandwidth requirements, decrease CDN costs and improve QoE.
